Just a few weeks ago the G1 community got the long awaited fully working Android 2.1 ROM from Cyanogen. His hard work on the CyanogenMod 5.0.7 ROM for the G1 and T-Mobile myTouch 3G has opened up the doors for other Devs to continue development on the original Google phone, the HTC Dream/G1. Cyanogen was able to bridge the gap and bring a full Android 2.1 experience to G1 community. This ROM is probably the biggest addition to the G1 since the original rooted ROM came out a while back.
Cyanogen has been churning out updates for the past 2 weeks now, and just the other day he released v5.0.7 Test3. This updated developmental build shows a lot of progress and adds some nice performance tweaks, along with a bunch of bug fixes. Cyanogen goes on to say that this latest build is stable enough to use as a everyday ROM. Thats a huge statement for a ROM that is still in the “alpha” stages of development. I’m not sure if this is even at the “beta” stage yet, so imagine in a few weeks how great this ROM will be!
If you are coming from a previous CM test build, you need to do a Nandroid backup, then just flash the latest test3.zip on top. There is no need to do a full wipe. The Google Apps (gapps) will automatically be restored, so you don’t have to flash that again.
If its your first time flashing any CyanogenMod ROM, you need to obviously have a rooted device, with an up to date recovery image. A Nandroid backup and a full wipe is required. Then flash the latest version or any build you want. Then if you want the Google Apps, just flash that .zip on top of the ROM. Reset and Enjoy! You can head over to XDA or Cyanogen Forum for more on the latest CyanogenMod ROM.
