We knew it had to come sometime, Verizon unloaded the 2.1 update for the Droid Eris this week, now Sprint has done the same for one of its first generation Android phones. There was a lot of unsettling news out of the Sprint camp this week, or at least we thought so, but for now seems Sprint got their act together and released a “Software update for the Samsung Moment”, as it’s being called on their site.
Samsung devices have ended up being at the bottom of the barrel, when it comes to everything Android, they’re working hard now to change all that, with the this update and the upcoming release of the Galaxy S. The update was posted prematurely late last night, but Sprint pulled it down, only to re-release it properly with full support today. By now we all know what to expect with a Android 2.1 update. But it seems this update has not brought all the goodies to the show, Moment owners are already complaining about the lack of live wallpapers and the default launcher staying the same. I guess everyone is expecting a Nexus One themed experience, the only thing is this isn’t a Nexus One and it’s a Sprint update.
That shouldn’t be stopping anyone from update to Eclair. Also as expected, the update is OTW (over-the-wire), so you have to download the USB driver and the update from Sprint’s support page. Now it’s finally official, Sprint’s Samsung Moment has been upgraded to Android 2.1. This can only mean good news for awaiting Hero owners. Their update could be coming anytime, we will obviously be on the lookout for it. In the meantime, Moment owners enjoy the upgrade!
