Today Valve has confirmed that popular Half-Life 2 will be coming to Steam for Mac, May 26, 2010 in a recreation of the iconic 1984 Apple ad , Half-Life 2 style (embedded below). Follow up titles Half-Life 2: Episode I and II will also be available for Mac users. Releases for the platform come every Wednesday, so there will most likely be other titles released tomorrow as well.
While Half-Life 2 is now about 5 years old, it received a ton of critical acclaim when it was released and appears on best games of all time lists frequently. So if you haven’t already played it on your PC, you will definitely want to give it a try.
Another announcement coming from Valve for Mac users says a future update will change the location of the Steam content folder, which is currently placed in the Documents folder. Valve initially decided to place the app’s content folder in Documents to make it easy for users to find and delete if they decided to delete the Steam client.
This was obviously met with some complaints from Mac users who are used to these types of system files being placed in Application Support. To fix this they will implement a “feature to help users uninstall Steam completely when they drag it to the Trash” and then they will move the “game content folder into “~/Library/Application Support/Steam”.
