The biggest social networking website in the world, Facebook announced today that it has surpassed 500 million active users on its site worldwide. The numbers do not come as a surprise, watching the unprecedented growth and popularity of the website since a year now. So, its official that the biggest social networking website in the world, has half billion active and registered members. That is quite a large number, even by Facebook’s standards !
When Mark Zuckerberg (the CEO and founder of Facebook) looks back, it all started in 2004 as a way for people within Harvard university to connect to each other. Within one year of its public release, it grew to one million userbase. Facebook had reached 400 million users in January this year. And it didn’t took more than 6 months for it to attract another 100 million users.
To celebrate the big feat of half billion users, Mark Zuckerberg is launching Facebook Stories. This new application is for users to share their success stories with the rest of the world. Also there is a big speculation about a movie that Facebook has announced in view of its success named “The Social Network”. In the movie, actor Jesse Eisenberg is playing the role of Zuckerberg and the movie will track his life through Harvard and how he created Facebook.
