The BBC announced on Friday, that its iPhone apps are approved in the Apple Apps store in UK and would most probably be available later today.
The BBC had originally announced the apps back in February this year, but due to some anti-competitive concerns hold it back. The announcement of the BBC mobile apps were made in a blog post today. Quoting from the blog post:
“We know that increasing numbers of you want to access BBC output on-the-go and the rapid growth of Internet-connected mobiles and smartphones in the market means we can cost-effectively provide our content and services on these devices, and this is a really important way for us to deliver online services in the future”
BBC is making the news app for both iPhone and iPad, which should be available today. Later this year, BBC news apps would also be available for Android, Blackberry and other devices.
