As tech blogs are reporting, Facebook Connect is suddenly missing from the Apple’s new social network which it announced 2 days before, iTunes Ping. What is making things really goofy is that it was apparently working until Wednesday night.
There are mixed bags of messages coming from Apple on this. Jobs is denying the fact that Facebook Connect was even there in Ping, while Apple’s product marketing head Schiller said that Facebook Connect is still working in Ping. Both of them seem to be totally unknown of the truth.
While there are clues that suggest that Facebook Connect was meant to be in iTunes. If you are not following anyone, you will see a message on People page that says “You are not following anyone. Connect with Facebook, search for people, invite friends, or follow recommended people to get started”. Facebook Connect is even mentioned in the Welcome email when you first sign up for the service.
Update: According to a report, Facebook blocked API access to Ping because it could’t reach on an agreement with Apple. So, as it seems now Apple removed the Facebook Connect feature from Ping after launch.
