In a few recent comments on Twitter from iPhone dev extraordinaire, MuscleNerd, might mean some big news for a long awaited baseband unlock for the latest iOS. MuscleNerd has gone on record to say that a new jailbreak and baseband unlock will be ready two days after the public release of Apple iOS 4.2.
October 20th tweets:
@MuscleNerd thanks.. how long would the wait be for 4.2 any approximate time
@simplysaru if you’re on 3G or 3GS, just a day or 2 at most after 4.2 is public (just enough time to verify stuff)
Today’s tweets from MuscleNerd:
@IShallHack yes, despite all the recent (and ridiculous) twitter drama, there is a very nice unlock coming soon. If I don’t get killed.
@nadimnakade we have an unlock for that, but gotta wait til next cat&mouse from Apple (official 4.2)
The new version of the famous baseband unlock tool, ultrasn0w, will be compatible with the iPhone 3Gs and 3G on iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2 running the 05.14.02 baseband. But what everyone is waiting for is the baseband unlock for the latest iPhone 4. Unfortunately the iPhone 4 has a different baseband altogether. It comes with a brand new 2.10.04 baseband, so you got to figure the iPhone Dev Team will need a little time to test and tweak ultrasn0w.
Apple is expected to release the iOS 4.2 update sometime this month. The update so far is best known for the added features it will bring to the iPad, but will include some important bug fixes for the iPhone also.
