Twitter would be rolling out another change which you might strongly notice. In a few days of time, your Twitter Stream would start displaying Promoted Tweets as Twitter plans to make in-stream advertising more affective. Even though the Promoted Tweets inside the stream is currently under testing, not all Twitter users would administer the change immediately. The update would start to roll out by time as Twitter is in the process of testing with one of its partners, HootSuite. The social network would test in form of ‘how and when’ to place the ads.
The Promoted Tweets which would act as the advertising backbone for Twitter, this type of mechanism would be entirely random. Promoted Tweets would be displayed according to the relevance and the social network would make sure that your see ads in your stream which are directly associated.
During this testing period with HootSuite, we will experiment with where and when Promoted Tweets are shown in the timeline. Not all HootSuite users will see Promoted Tweets and those who do may see different Promoted Tweets in different places in their timeline. As with Promoted Tweets in search, we will display Promoted Tweets in the timeline when they are relevant. Similar to our Promoted Account recommendations, we use several signals to determine a Promoted Tweet’s relevance to a user, including the public list of whom they follow. We will expand the rollout only when we feel we’re delivering a high-quality user experience.
Mixed reactions were recorded from different platforms as Twitter rolled out the new feature. Some thought of it to be polluting, while others were of the view that of course Twitter requires revenue and how much more should it wait.
