I was just now checking my inbox, and I noticed a email from Team Boxee. Instantly I got excited, I almost forgot all about the long awaited Boxee Box, especially with the release of Google TV. I almost pulled the trigger last week and bought the Logitech settop Google TV unit, but I didn’t. Main reason right now, the price. $300 is a lot just to have Google on my HDTV.
Getting back to the Boxee email, it was a reminder that the D-Link produced Boxee Box was launching on November 10th. They wanted a RSVP to the Boxee launch party next week. The email also had a link to the Boxee Box pre-order page. Boy, did I click on that link fast!! It took me to a Amazon.com pre-order page, and I quickly noticed the $199 price tag.
After scanning the Amazon product page, I checked out the basic specs and features. It does look promising. Its a bit of a ackward design, but with the obvious HDMI port, you also get 2 USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet port, and wireless 802.11n/g/b built-in! It looks like it can handle all the major video and media formats including TS, MP4, AVI, FLV and MKV.
As I mentioned, its up for pre-order worldwide as of today. If you pre-order now it will arrive on November 10th, otherwise it will be in-store everywhere on November 17th. Head over to Boxee’s pre-order page to find a retailer in your country.
