Apple has just released iOS 4.2 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, and 2nd gen iPod touch or later.
As you can see from the images above, the update brings a number of notable new features and improvements, some of which we already new about, like AirPlay and Find My iPhone. However, if you are wondering what else is included in the update, below are a few of the new features for compatible iOS devices.
Another new feature in iOS 4.2 is the ability to search text on Safari webpages. This is done from the Google search bar (to the left of the address bar), which now also displays results for “On This Page”, in addition to Google Results. Hitting Return will search Google, tapping one of the “On This Page” results will highlight it on the current page.
iPhone users will get 17 new messaging alerts and the ability assign custom tones for contacts.
AirPrint support will allow you to print emails, web pages, documents, and photos directly from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
All iOS devices compatible with the update will also get new “dock controls”, that will allow you to access a volume slider, and AirPlay output icon (and a brightness slider on iPad only) by sliding to the far left within the multitasking tray.
iPad users will also get Multitasking, Folders, Game Center, Unified Inbox and Threaded Messaging, all of which were already previously available on iPhone 4.
