OnLive game streaming service has got off to a pretty slow start, but started to pick up steam with the release of their MicroConsole for streaming to TVs. Today, electronics manufacturer Visio and OnLive announced that they would be building the service into a brand new line of VIZIO VIA HDTVs and Blu-ray players. The service is also expected to come to the VIZIO VIA Tablet and VIA Phone when they are launched.
The service, which will run as a web app on the VIZIO hardware, will provide support for full 1080p resolution, OnLive’s wireless controllers, and stereoscopic 3D. The OnLive equipped Visio devices are being shown off this weekend at CES, and are expected to hit the market later this year. A snippet from the press release is below.
With the integration of OnLive across the VIA Plus ecosystem of compatible VIZIO devices, consumers can access the OnLive cloud gaming service directly through any VIA Plus HDTV, Tablet, Smart Phone or Blu-ray Player for instant gaming on any VIA Plus device-even seamlessly continuing gameplay from one device to the next-without the need for a game console.
