As we had reported earlier about the rumor of Amazon launching its own Android appstore, it is finally launched today. The sad part of the launch being that it is only accessible for US customers for now. The official Amazon Android Appstore is located at here. If you are not a US resident, it will display “The Amazon Appstore is only available to customers located in the United States”.
As an added bonanza, a free copy of the Angry Birds Rio game for Android is available on the Amazon store for approx 13 more hours at the time of publishing this post. We do not have any information until now but it is also said that Amazon will soon offer a downloadable version of its Appstore for Android devices. The Amazon Appstore is quite huge even at the launch with support for hundred of handsets and mobile operators.
Amazon is offering a catalog of 3800 apps at the launch which are properly categorized into section like New releases, Popular Games, Popular Apps, Games, Utilities, Entertainment, Social networking, Music, Productivity and so on.
The only interesting thing for us and all the Android fans to watch out for will be, what Amazon’s store has to offer exclusively that others do not have e.g: Angry Birds Rio. Also all the leading mobile game developers like Gameloft, Handmark and Glu mobile are already supporting Amazon.
