Ubuntu Software center in Ubuntu 11.04 is now providing a special feature that you probably must not have heard before.
It is now letting you test-drive applications without actually installing them on your computer. Just find the application you want to try out from the Software Center and click the “Test drive” button and you’re good to go. To make this work for you, you need to have the qtnx package installed on your computer. To install it, type this in your terminal:
sudo apt-get install qtnx
After installing this application, when you visit the Software Center you should see a “Test drive” button just next to the application screenshot. The test drive of the application run on a remote server, so you need to have a decent Internet connection. However this feature is yet not live for all the applications but nonetheless works cool. This feature will be made official with Ubuntu 11.04 final to be released next month.
