Earlier today at 4:30 PM ET iTunes and Apple officially hit their 10 billion song download. To accompany the celebration Apple did a typical promotion offering a generous $10,000 iTunes gift card to the person who downloaded the 10 billionth song. Of course, before you start adding up how much money that is, the number also includes songs that were given away as free downloads through promotions and songs that have been downloaded with counterfeit iTunes cards. Either way, this is definitely a tremendous milestone for Apple and iTunes and yet more proof that iTunes has officially taken over the music industry and online music distribution in general.
