With reports today on the apple site announcing a lawsuit against HTC for allegedy infringing on 20 Apple, iPhone technology related patents, there are many speculating on whether or not these claims are legit. While HTC quickly gaining more and more exposure within the Android market and starting to develop a community not unlike early iPhone adopters, the question still remains, is the HTC really infringing on Apple’s rights, or is this an attempt by Apple to stop a product picking up steam in it’s newest, favorite market. The report on Apple.com reads:
Apple® today filed a lawsuit against HTC for infringing on 20 Apple patents related to the iPhone’s user interface, underlying architecture and hardware. The lawsuit was filed concurrently with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and in U.S. District Court in Delaware.
“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”
What do you think about these claims from Apple? Do you prefer the iPhone or HTC?
