9to5mac reports Apple has finally announced today that the ability to send apps as gifts as officially been made available in iTunes. Using the exact same method you use to gift songs in iTunes, you will now be able to gift apps (shown in the screenshots above). Of course, like songs in iTunes, you will only be able to gift songs by paying with credit card. When logging into your iTunes account you will be prompted to accept the terms policy for the new feature and then will immediately have access to it.
Here’s the announcement from Apple:
The changes we have made to the terms and conditions include the following:
• The “Gifts” section of the iTunes Store Terms of Sale have been changed to clarify that Gifts may not be used for in-app purchases, in-app subscriptions, upgrades, or the iPod touch OS, and to explain that some gifts require compatible hardware and parental control settings so they can be redeemed.
• A new “Gifts” section has been added to the App Store Terms and Conditions explaining the conditions under which Apps can be gifted, including an explanation that Gifts may not be used for in-app purchases, in-app subscriptions, upgrades or the iPod touch OS, and to explain that some gifts require compatible hardware and parental control settings so they can be redeemed.”
