Droid owners rejoice! Looks like this might be it, finally the long awaited, much rumored about Android 2.1 update for Motorola Droid owners. Engadget just happened to stumble upon an internal Verizon email that went out this morning.
Starting 03/30/2010, Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update for the DROID by Motorola. Users will be able to upgrade their software to version AP: ESE81/BP: C_01.3E.03P to receive new improvements and enhancements.
Basically at about noon today EST, 1000 owners at random will receive a update notification. Then just before midnight tonight, Verizon will pick 9000 more owners and send them the update alert. Verizon is picking who gets the update first, completely at random. After the first 10,000 users receive the update they wait 24 hours and then on April 1st they will notify 200,000 more users. Verizon will continue this process until everyone is notified 0f the update. If all goes well, Droid owners will be running the new 5 screen, multi-touch enabled Android 2.1.
I just want to stress the fact that Verizon is picking users at random, it just like a lottery. You just need to be patient, which I know is real hard for Droid owners, after the whole update debacle. If any of our readers here receive the alert, please drop a comment so we can confirm this. I got the update but when i tried to update my phone it gave me an error. It’s probably because i rooted it. I don’t even want the update though because a rooted droid is better than the 2.1 update which brings almost nothing to the table anyway. Idk why people are so fired up about it. It doesn’t even include flash so who the fuck cares?
