Well not really build your own iPad, but if you did build one it would cost you about $260. Thats what an analysis by market research firm ISuppli Corp says. Not only that but another company that specializes in reverse engineering, Chipworks, took apart the ipad and basically said that it was a giant iPod Touch. Almost identical in the way it was built, just has a bigger screen and faster processor. They called the iPad ‘a giant battery with a tiny [circuit] board attached to it’, Apple hasn’t really promoted the iPad as anything but a tablet. We all figured that it was a “giant iPod Touch.” There all sorts of factors that play into Apple cost per device. There is research, marketing, labor, and everything else that would go into making a device like the iPad. ISuppli was able to breakdown the iPad’s major parts and components. Here is what they found out:
• $95 touchscreen display (multitouch is pricey)
• $26.80 processor built by Samsung
• $29.50 16GB memory; $59 32GB memory; $118 64GB memory
• $10.50 aluminum back
That comes out to be roughly $259 for a 16Gb wifi only iPad. You think you could do better? I’m sure the loads of companies and manufacturers with soon to be released tablets, do. I’d love to hear what you all think, leave a comment and let me know. [via Gizmodo]

Okay, I like your article, it was great! I am trying to build a touchscreen computer such as the iPad but, run snow leopard instead of the mobile iPhone OS. When I looked at the prices for this project it costed maybe double what you posted, that just goes to show the iPad is made from cheap electronics and a bad OS. To run snow leopard with this makeshift iPad it would cost at least $624 CAN for the Monitor, motherboard graphics card, memory,DVD drive and a decent sized HDD!
Sincerly:
Frank, Mac rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dude wat abt circuit design, software tell me abt tat,
