I know my last article on the Hero 2.1 update seemed to of ruffled some feathers. For as good as the Android platform has become, the one flaw seems to be the OS updates, or lack there of. I knows it’s hard to get a clear answer, when there are two sources that end up bumping heads on info for a pending update. My last article focused on the HTC’s message regarding the Hero 2.1 update for Europe. Today’s post is for Sprint’s Android owners, stateside.
A internal Sprint memo to employee’s tells us that Android 2.1 update for the HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment will be coming in “early May”. I know it’s another vague date, but the as the headline of the memo show, Sprint is aware that Android owners are getting very anxious. The memo does not go into detail about the specifics of the 2.1 update, it seems to be more of a employee reminder that it’s on the way. This is the first real documentation from Sprint that has surfaced, and it looks completely legit.
If you put two and two together from HTC’s message about the “end of April” and this internal memo from Sprint, everything seems to line up correctly. The European Hero and Sprint’s Hero are very similar, so its seems proper that the update will trickle down starting in Europe and making its way to the U.S within a few weeks. Samsung on the other hand, hasn’t been in the news as much as others, regarding Android OS updates. They just haven’t been telling their customers really anything. Again this leaked info comes from the guys and gals at Phandroid and Android Forums. It’s only a few weeks away, but again if you want to play the 2.1 update, check out my post on the leaked test build for the Sprint Hero, and the Samsung Moment leaked 2.1 ROM.
