There has been a lot of leaked Dell products in the past week, I’ve had a hard time keeping up with it all. Not really, but I have mainly focused on the all the phones that came out of the massive multi-product leak. There were so many cool phones to talk about I forgot to mention the equally as cool tablets that were also leaked. Dell decided to show us some of their upcoming tablet line-up. There was some talk about the Dell Streak (Mini 5) and how it might get the push to Android 2.1 in September. It is currently listed to be running on Android 2.0, so 2.1 would be even better. Hopefully that the speculated “late summer” launch might still hold true now that it we see a September update already. We also learned some about the Streak’s accessories, which was originally thought to be on the light side. Seems that Dell has made a few accessory kits, including a car mount and a home A/V kit, along with a standard in-box set of accessories. Not only that, Dell is making the Steak completely customizable, there are quite a few color choices so far. Looks like we will just have to wait and see.
We know about the 5″ inch Dell Streak, what about the whole line of tablets that are rumored? We heard a few weeks ago that the Streak series would include a 7″ inch and a 10″ inch tablet. Now it looks as if we can confirm the 7″ inch tablet. The Dell Looking Glass will be the successor to the 5″ inch Streak. This beautiful 7″ inch Android tablet will not only be bigger than the Streak, but it will pack a bit more power also. Dell has plans on powering it with the Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset, which is tailored for tablet computing. The Looking Glass will come with 4GB of RAM and 4GB of flash memory while the SDHC Slot will support up to 32GB cards. It will also have 3G, 802.11 b/g/n wifi, Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, and a 1.3 megapixel camera. The only thing a bit funny about this tablet, is the fact that it will have the same 800×480 resolution as the 5″ inch Streak, regardless of its bigger screen size. Although we have learned that there will be a 2nd version of the Looking Glass to be released later, and it is rumored to be a HD model. It’s possible that the first model will be released in November, right after the Streak is released. Again we will just have to wait and see.
But just the other day, a Dell product roadmap was uncovered by Android Central, and it shows some more cool products that Dell is hoping to release soon. The roadmap has to do with with Dell’s line-up of netbooks and tablets. It shows two new netbooks codenamed the “Athens” and “Sparta”. Both of whgich are being labeled as netbooks, but the “Sparta” will be a netbook tablet hybrid, and the “Athens” a true netbook. Both of which will have a 11″ inch display, ARM processors, and option of 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth connectivity modules. There isn’t much else listed about these new Dell netbooks, oh yeah, they will be running Android just like everything else listed in the leaked roadmap. If we are to go by what the document says, then there’s a chance we could see these in either late summer, or early fall of this year.
I’m not sure if this concludes the leak, but it sure has given us a lot to look forward to. The document has also shed some light on the where and when these tablets will end up. Looks as if the Dell Streak will come in three flavors. A T-Mobile (US) version, a European model running on Vodafone’s network and a later released model for China, which be on all 3 major carriers: China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Mobile. No exact dates but as I said earlier, Q3 summer release for the US and European, and early 2011 for China. Personally I can’t wait, these are some really cool devices that are gonna pack some power and style, hopefully we won’t have to wait that long either!
