We told you a few days ago about the PlayStation 3 firmware update 3.30 that brought initial support for 3D gaming as well as some enhanced trophy features. However, there is also a few new features being reported by Engadget but yet to be tested by us personally. This include toggles for Bitstream (Direct)] and [Bitstream (Mix)] being added as options under [Video Settings] > [BD Audio Output Format (Optical Digital)].
There is also word that future Sony VAIO PC owners will be able to take advantage of remote play features without the use of a PSP or alternative intermediary device. There have also been a few other reports that are unconfirmed including “enhanced region free Blu-ray movie playback” and “updated Flash compatibility”. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like we will be getting our “Install Other OS” option back until Geohot comes up with a custom firmware.
