New PS3 Slim Update Makes Changes to Console

Sony has reportedly released a updated refresh of their latest PlayStation 3 Slim console that has been dubbed “CECH-2100A”. There are reports out that the console has actually made some changes to the PlayStation 3’s graphics processing unit as well as the amount of overall power the console will use while running.

The main change is the size of the graphics processing unit which was reduced from 65nm to 40nm. This essentially translates into less manufacturing cost for Sony, which could presumably free up some room for another price cut or simply allow Sony to make some profit on the PS3. However, with a price cut already being introduced with the introduction of the PlayStation 3 Slim, I wouldn’t count on it anytime soon.

Its also being reported that the new updated console will run on much less power which will obviously allow less of a need for cooling and hopefully prevent overheating.
