Kind of a slow Monday, being that the Spirit jailbreak was just released last night and that is what’s dominating all the news. But LG has finally confirmed its first big Android phone for North America, the LG Ally. It was originally thought to be the LG Aloha, but LG has changed it up a bit looks like it got a new case and a new identity. The LG Ally is now a sleek looking horizontal slider, originally thought to fall under the “superphone” category, is now a mid-range handset sporting a slower 600MHz ARM chip. The highlight of the phone, surely isn’t any of the features, but its working relationship with the huge summer blockbuster Iron Man 2. The partnership includes a nice tie-in with the Tony Stark a.k.a Iron Man character, a microsite dubbed lgim2.com (there is just one coming soon page so far), and a huge promotional contest. Looks like LG is doing the promotional part right, Marvel Comics movies are usually a big deal.
from April 25 through May 22.
Consumers can text LGIM2 from their mobile phone to 95173 to receive exclusive Iron Man content, download the Augmented Reality application on their LG Ally phone and enter the sweepstakes for a chance to win the ultimate Iron Man 2 prize package:
- LG Ally and 1 year FREE service contract
- 2 tickets to the U.S. premiere of a Marvel movie
- 55-inch class LG “Infinia” LED HDTV and LG Network Blu-ray Home Theater System
The press release seemed to go on and on about the Marvel & LG partnership, and never gave any real specs of info about the phone itself. It also left us wondering about what carrier the Ally would land on, but there has been a Verizon logo spotted on the Ally site. Seems weird that they would be pushing this phone with its huge promotion, around the same time as their flagship Droid Incredible. Press release confirms a May 20th launch date. I will keep you updated as soon as I know more about where this will officially end up.
