Last night Comex released the long awaited Spirit userland jailbreak. Spirit jailbreak is first complete untethered jailbreak for all iDevices, including the iPhone 3Gs and the new iPad. For the most pat the release of Spirit jailbreak went off without a hitch, except for a small user bug that affected Windows 7 and Windows Vista users. Apparently to get around the error code, Windows 7 users had to switch to Windows 98 compatibility mode. There was also another small bug where some users were reporting that all photos were deleted from their device once the jailbreak was complete. Comex has just issued an update that corrects these minor bugs.
Update (May 3): I’ve updated the jailbreak tool. It no longer deletes photos (sorry!) and should resolve the issue with error code c0000005. (If you still get that error with the new version, try setting compatibility mode to Windows 95.)
I used the the Spirit jailbreak on two devices, my new iPad 16GB WiFi and my iPod Touch 2G (non-MC serial), I didn’t come across any of the reported bugs, but it doesn’t mean they’re not happening to others. You can download the updated Spirit Jailbreak for Windows, now at spiritjb.com. There was no word on any issues with the Mac version, so that’s good to go as usual.
