With the on going war over flash vs HTML5, and Adobe vs Apple, its kind of surprising that “Gianduia”, Apple’s own alternative to flash introduced at last summer’s World of WebObjects Developer Conference, hasn’t been mentioned before now.
It seems that everyone that isn’t onboard with flash is starting to make the jump to HTML5 for creating rich internet app features, however our friends at AppleInsider and many others are speculating that you will see more information about “Gianduia” at this year’s WOWODC and WWDC events.
Apple has actually already created web app clients for WebObjects-based services with “Gianduia”. Among these include the Concierge service for Genuis Bar reservations, the Apple One-to-One Program, iPhone reservation system, and Personal Shopping shown in the image above.
Developer Jonathan “Wolf” Rentzsch, described the technology in a tweet saying “Gianduia” is “essentially is browser-side Cocoa (including CoreData) + WebObjects, written in JavaScript by non-js-haters.”

Jonathan “Wolf” Rentzsch is not the developer of Gianduia, he is a developer who observed Apple’s demo last year and commented on it.
