Now there just might be something other than a rumor to go on this time. I have been reporting constantly about the Sprint Android 2.1 update for the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment. Through all the leaked employee memos, and screenshots of dates, Sprint has kept quiet and made no official comment, until now.
It all starts just a few days ago, I wrote about the possibility of Best Buy getting the Hero update this past Friday, but that rumor was quickly countered by the Sprint support staff. A Sprint Forum admin said that there is no truth the rumor. That really left Sprint owners with almost no direction, and no idea about if or when they would be seeing Android 2.1.
Now Sprint has taken to streets and posted some official statements on Twitter and their own support forum. They have cleared up the rumors, but awaiting Hero and Moment owners won’t be thrilled with what was said.

Official Sprint Statement: Android 2.1
Hello Community Members,
We wanted to let you know that Sprint continues to work closely with Samsung and HTC to deliver the highly anticipated Android 2.1 upgrade for Samsung Moment and HTC Hero. We are on track for the upgrade to be available in Q2. Sprint had hoped to have this resolved by now – we thank our customers for their patience as we work to bring them a positive experience with this upgrade.
That quote was taken from Sprint Community forum admin, so in other words it’s an official Sprint statement. They basically said the exact same thing on their official Twitter account.
I’m not sure who Sprint customers can blame for all this, but there are a lot of different parties that play into this. Hero and Moment owners could be looking at least a few more weeks, Sprint decided to hide behind vague “Q2” term. At least this is official, and now we know Sprint is apparently working hard to port Android 2.1. There is no excuse for how this has all been played, and I have read a lot of comments from Sprint owners about how they feel, but it’s really the one major flaw with Android. The whole fragmentation issue makes updates very hard. We all know Google is working hard to combat this problem.
If you cant wait any longer, or a just plain sick of all these rumors you can check out our articles on the leaked Android 2.1 builds for both the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment. Hopefully this will be the last time I report on this, at least till the update is officially released.

This is just a repeat of what was said months ago. Why is this news worthy. They even dropped the “Early” from “Q2”.
Well if they can remove “early” from “Early Q2”, they could just as easily put “Q2 2011” ! That’s prob the next step!
