I was preparing and researching yesterday on the report of the possible OTA Froyo update that was supposed to be released yesterday, for T-Mobile UK Galaxy S owners. I then realized I should probably hold off a few more hours, to see what actually happens. Sure enough nothing happened, no OTA updae, no KIES update either.
The whole Froyo update was on the strange side. T-Mobile had apparently ‘promised’ Galaxy S owners that the official Froyo update would be ready by December 1st. What was even stranger was the fact that T-Mobile was banking on a over-the-air (OTA) update. Samsung owners know that isn’t possible, the ability to update the Galaxy S over-the-air, just doesn’t exist.
Now the other part of T-Mobile’s promise was that if the OTA update wouldn’t be available by December 1st, then it would be pushed out over Samsung servers using Samsung’s KIES syncing software. Now that update update is not going to happen, at least for now.
In a recent post on T-Mobile’s support forum, a rep stated that the update has been pushed back to next week, and even that didn’t sound to definite. If you read on after that post, you can clearly see how frustrated and upset Galaxy S owner are over this whole debacle.
I’ve been talking to the handset team and the Samsung people today and the latest news is as follows.
Unfortunately the 2.2 update will not be available via KIES today as expected and Samsung have confirmed that FOTA will not feature as part of this update, but should appear at a later date. Samsung are indicating the firmware will be made available at some point next week.
We will keep you updated as soon as we know more about the whole situation.
Update: I need to mention that this is all regarding T-Mobile UK Galaxy S owners.
